Forward Tyler Motte made a strong case for opening list of game when he scored two goals in the Hawks 4-0 Blackhawks exhibition Saturday win against the Blues at the United Center.
Motte scored the first after self puck deflection 19 minutes, 31 seconds of the second period to put the Hawks 3-0 lead. Motte then scored after breaking free of the defense Blues at 19:21 of the third period for his first two goals of the preseason.
“It is special,” said Joel Quenneville coach. “He did a lot of good things. We moved him a couple of points in the lines … I know (Friday) he had three breakaways tonight he cashed and made very good things.”
Motte skipped his senior season at Michigan to sign three-year agreement beginning with the Hawks in April.
Artemi Panarin also scored on a one-timer from Patrick Kane and the new defender Michal Kempny scored on a shot from near the blue line.
Hawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson received a match penalty for a shoulder to helmet hit that gave the Blues winger Ty Rattie in the third period. Hjalmarsson is suspended for Sunday’s game against the Red Wings, a game he was unlikely to play anyway, and could face more discipline pending further examination of the hits of the Ministry of NHL Security Player.
